Macmillan Academy students from Years 7 and 8 took part in Smashed, an interactive alcohol-awareness session delivered by Collingwood Learning.
The session combined a powerful drama performance with activities designed to help pupils understand the consequences of underage drinking and the role of social influence.
The performance followed the lives of three teenagers affected by alcohol, showing how a series of choices led to significant consequences and changed the characters’ attitudes towards drinking.
After the drama, pupils joined an interactive discussion where they explored the events they had seen, questioned the characters in a hot-seating activity, and examined the decisions that led to harm.
To close the session, students took part in forum theatre: they were invited to re-stage a scene and propose alternative responses so the characters could make safer, more positive choices when pressured to drink. The hands-on element allowed pupils to practise strategies for resisting peer pressure and reflect on how everyday decisions can have long-term effects.
